Brownsville, Texas to Montgomery, Alabama
(February 2, 2011 to Feb 10, 2011 )
Brownsville, (El Valle, Texas) Corpus Christi, Houston, Victorville, Texas;…New Orleans, Louisiana;……. Jackson, Mississippi;…….Birmingham; Montgomery, Alabama
Marcha Migrante is back !!! Join us as it is more important than ever to take action. Our human rights and civil rights are being trampled from Brownsville to Montgomery and we need to stand up and say BASTA ! NO MAS! On Marcha Migrante VI we will visit some of the historical Civil Rights sights where are African American brethren have suffered (and continue to suffer) civil/human rights violations. We will partner with our fellow man, as we are all members of the same race, the human race and we need to unite like never before!
Marcha Migrante I (Feb 2-28, 2006) helped pave the way for the massive demonstrations of 2006, when on February 2, 2006 we traveled across country ( 40 cities, in 20 states, in 27 days) as we traveled 10,000 miles from coast to coast on Marcha Migrante I , rise up against 4437, take to the streets, millions did, 4437 was stopped! (We also protested in front of CNN Atlanta, to kick off remove Lou Dobbs from CNN, campaign)
Marcha Migrante II (Feb 2-17, 2007) we went across the entire 2000 mile border from San Diego to Brownsville and back crossing all 10 border states to gather stories on why we need immigration reform. (Special thanks to Benigno Pena and team in leading Texas efforts of our journey)
Marcha Migrante III (Feb 2-17) 2008 SU VOTO ES SU VOZ from San Diego to Canadian Border and back, when we returned to Friendship Park several thousand people met us there including our friend, Elvira Arellano. (Also : Beautiful ceremony at US/Canadian Border)
Marcha Migrante IV (Feb 2-21) From Miami to Washington DC (We marched we voted, now it’s time to deliver!) We delivered 30,000 signed letters (asking for Humane Immigration reform) to Whitehouse and newly elected Obama administration. (Also met with Judiciary Department, to ask for Arpaio Investigation)
Marcha Migrante V (Feb 2-6, 2010) (American dream or Nightmare) From Sonora desert in Mexico to Holtville, Cemetery in California where 700 of the thousands of our migrant brethren that have died crossing the US/Mexico border, are buried (NI UNA MUERTE MAS/REFORMA YA!) (Also had Arpaio protest w/presente in Phoenix and later Imperial Valley vigil with Josefina Lopez, Francisco Herrera and Mana former band member)
On each of our historic marches we have held vigils to remember our fallen brethren. We have held vigil in La Paz, California at the site of our hero Cesar Chavez’s grave; in Redford, Texas at the burial site of murdered 17 year old shepard Esequiel Hernandez; in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania at the site of Luis Ramirez’s brutal hate crime murder and in Long Island New York where another brother Marcelo Lucero was kicked to death. Neither they nor our other heroe’s like Roberto Martinez will ever be forgotten. Roberto will always be the “padrino” of human rights along the US/Mexioco border and the “Father of Friendship Park”
On Marcha Migrante VI (Feb 2-9, 2010) we will return to the site of the death of 5 year old, Marco Antonio Villasenor and the 18 men that died tragically in Victoria, Texas. We will also have a special vigil to remember the 72 brethren that were massacred in Tamaulipas, Mexico as well as our murdered brethren Anastasio and Sergio Hernandez . Ni Una Muerte Mas! Reforma Ya !
