t’s #FallFreedomDay2020! Today, members of the @bailfundnetwork are working together to pay nearly $3 million in ransom to get our people out of cages. This action builds upon years of organizing calls to #FreeThemAll and #AbolishICE.

We did it again, we freed another person from detention, and it’s all thanks to YOU! Meet Bilal, a Mauritanian asylum seeker who has been in Imperial Valley Regional Detention Center for four months. He is 19 years old and the youngest person we have bonded out to date. It pains us to know at his young age has had to go through the horrors of detention amidst a global pandemic, but we are hopeful for his future and new beginning in Philadelphia.
In sharing every story, and posting every bond, it is our hope that we will all learn to welcome instead of to fear. We remind you to always lead with love and kindness, for that is how we will help fight racist and inhumane policies. We must always raise our voice to help accept those who so desperately need us, and who have come to this country asking for acceptance. It is up to all of us! We thank you for your continued support, and once again ask for your help to save lives. Our bond funds are running low and we need your support more than ever in order to free our folks. All donations make a difference no matter the amount, and every dollar is spent towards getting someone out of detention! Help us #freethemall! Last week, we continued our migrant shelter assistance in Tijuana by supporting Ejercito de Salvacion by buying them a very much needed washer, dryer, fridge and stove! We are so elated to keep helping this shelter as it houses only women and children. (We were also able to take a few soccer balls that were mailed to our office!). So many of these appliances we have in our home and don’t realize the importance in our everyday lives. Especially in these shelters, where you may only have one change of clothes, a washer and dryer becomes essential. They also serve the shelter to help sanitize and take precautions against COVID. They also now have a place to store and cook fresh produce and groceries we also help them purchase, and it’s all thanks to you. We are so grateful to your continued support!
As part of the ongoing #SaveAsylum campaign, we dedicate the October 21st action to children seeking asylum. They will lead a march through downtown Nogales, by the port of entry, to the border wall where they will be received by supporters and immigration advocates on the US side of the wall who will listen to and validate their testimonies. There will also be a march in San Ysidro PED-East on the Mexican side. We will be covering the Nogales event live at 11:00 am Pacific Time on Wednesday the 21st at: https://www.saveasylum.org/upcomingaction. Please wear face masks and follow 6ft social distancing safety precautions.
Every weekend we go out, we get clues. These clues help us in the weeks that follow. These clues work as puzzle pieces where we try to connect where we have left supplies, where desert travel moves and where we need to be leaving supplies.
We are always working in ways to improve, learn and be more efficient while out in the desert, so we may be able to serve our purpose the best way possible. Weekly desert trips during Covid with small groups of the most experienced Water Drop members has allowed us to learn so much, act rapidly and advance our mission. Thank you to everyone who has continued to show up on a regular basis. Thank you everyone for your support and understanding during the pandemic. In the meanwhile, donations of water gallons (non milk jug style), pop-top canned food, socks and bandanas are appreciated, along with sharing our social media posts. For any questions about Water Drops or our Water Drops during Covid, reach out to Water Drop Program Co-Director James Cordero, james@borderangels.org. Thank you for your continued support! Link in bio to donate to our work. Thank you so much to Peace Rising for hosting us at their Sustainable Governance Summit: Achieving Climate Security Through Inclusive Institutions. It was an honor to discuss how we can do civic engagement in a way that enhances our sustainability and sense of community, to survive and thrive in the years ahead. We were able to connect with such a globalized community!

Message us at admin@borderangels.org to get started Just as all of us have been forced to adapt to the state of the world, Border Angels has done the same in order to better serve our beloved migrant community. As we have mentioned in the past, our supported Tijuana shelters have been hit hard by this pandemic since so many of them depended on all types of physical donations, including food and water. Since we are not able to deliver these, we instead continue to support them with funds so that they may pay bills, rent, purchase groceries, and more recently to get one of their vans up and running. Our friends at Casa de Oracion del Migrante were able to fix their van, which empowers them now with the ability to purchase groceries on their own. They even shared with us one of the delicious meals they prepared!
We are only able to continue this amazing work because of your continued support, GRACIAS! URGENT: The new deadline to fill in the 2020 Census is TOMORROW: Oct. 15!!
The Census happens only once every 10 years and determines how many representatives each state will have in Congress for the next 10 years as well as how much federal funding communities will receive for roads, schools, housing and social programs. Make sure you, your family and all your friends are counted and our communities are represented! The Census is completely confidential, free, and open to everyone regardless of your immigration status. Head over to 2020Census.gov to fill in the Census now! We want to give an enormous thank you to San Diego Mesa College, Jennifer, and all of the organizations present in yesterday’s “Borderlands & Activism” panel in honor of Indigenous People’s Day. We are so grateful to have been a part of a space of love and healing which acknowledged the struggle and resistance to colonization, and highlighting the importance of activism, particularly in the borderlands.
Activism starts with you, and finds its strength in collaboration. Gracias to everyone that was a part of this event and celebrating Indigenous People’s Day: @asiansolidaritycollective @m4bwsd @detentionresistance @armadillos_niunmigrantemenos @weallgotsd @sdbrownberets @uniondelbarrio and of course @sdmesachicano If you would like Border Angels to be a part of your next event, email us at admin@borderangels.org |
