Caravan of Love
The Caravan of Love is a service that seeks to aid migrant asylum seekers that arrive in Tijuana as part of the Central American caravan. There are many women and children who are left to deal with the harsh conditions that they encounter at the border. Volunteers help either by providing donations or helping to distribute the donations at the more than two dozen shelters Border Angels supports. Distribution should always be carried out in an organized manner, so that the many migrants can have equal access to the donations.
Volunteers have the option to either drive themselves and take donations in their own vehicle, or establish contact with someone in order to carpool and drive down together. The Embajada Migrante Shelter located in Playas de Tijuana is operated by Border Angels, but we also care for shelter residents throughout Tijuana. Migrants are in need of supplies such as cash, water, clothes, sanitary and hygiene products, baby products, school supplies for children, and non-perishable foods. The Caravan of Love usually takes place on two Saturdays each month (please check the calendar or contact us about dates). If one wishes to donate and is currently out of the state or country, they can do so through the registry of Walmart and Target, who will ship the donated items to the Border Angels office. Border Angels also provides Educational Programs (see Educational Request Form), and along with volunteers, we accept long term Interns (see Internship Application and Internships: What to Expect). Contact Marlene@borderangels.org
