It was not without difficulty but we have freed yet another person from detention through our Families Reunidas Bond Program, Kuo. He is a 22 year old Chinese asylum seeker who was in detention for an alarming 11 months. He was detained in the Otay Mesa Detention Center, which continues to have an extreme number of COVID cases, and we are so glad to have one less person exposed.
We cannot stress enough the urgency of bonding people out of detention centers, as we have now seen 21 confirmed deaths in ICE custody, and the conditions in detention centers across the US continue to be negligent and horrifying. Kuo is now headed to New York to start a new life with his sponsor. We could not have achieved his freedom without the help of Freedom For Immigrants and without all of your donations. We need YOUR help to save lives! Our bond funds are running low and we need your support more than ever in order to free our folks. All donations make a difference no matter the amount, and every dollar is spent towards getting someone out of detention! https://www.gofundme.com/.../familias-reunidas...

We are on a roll this week with another virtual group, this time we were hosted by Deb Lelchuck and The Orange County Jewish Coalition for Refugees! We are so grateful for this space of learning and talking about such difficult and complex topics such as immigration. We believe in engaging in such discussions are a key part of growing and achieving meaningful change. THANK YOU!

"That she [Ruth Bader Ginsburg] would see me as a person even though I am undocumented, that she saw me as an equal member of our society even though I am a woman, and just as short as she is" -Dulce Garcia.

This Tijuana shelter houses many women and children, and we are so grateful to be able to provide them with a working fridge to make the most use of their groceries and produce. We support 15 other shelters, many of which no longer get funds or donations from anywhere else since COVID, and it’s all through your assistance. Want to contribute to our migrant families in Tijuana? Donate now!
Thank you so much to John Paul Ramirez and Loyola Marymount University’s Campus Ministry for hosting us via zoom today! We are so lucky to partner with learning opportunities such as theirs which enables students to engage in virtual summits to discuss difficult topics, in this case immigration on our southern borders. We are grateful to be able to help promote a culture of love, and to be reminded by such wonderful individuals to be allies and lead with kindness.

SHELTER AID UPDATE:
Our migrant families and shelter directors extended their thank you for giving them another lovely family dinner. We cannot thank you enough for your support, as you’re not only providing a roof over their heads, you are saving lives! These kids, and so many other individuals at the migrant shelters rely solely on the support you help us provide, as they are hardly unable to receive donations in kind. We covered a lot of ground this past weekend. We visited three areas over two days. We climbed dry waterfalls, did some bouldering, and went low through some tunnels. All of that is needed to get the supplies to where they are needed the most right now.
Thank you to everyone on our team for all the hard work, so that we may be as efficient as possible while our time is spent in the desert. While out this weekend, we removed over 70lbs of trash from the desert! No matter the weather, nor how extreme the temperatures get, we have not, and will never leave the desert. As long as people are crossing through, we’ll be there. The temperatures are still expected to reach up to 115° in some areas, so we are still only taking experienced Water Drop volunteers for the time being. Thank you all for your patience. As soon as we can safely take new volunteers we will. For the meanwhile, sharing posts and making donations allow us to continue our work, and be efficient as possible. For any questions about Water Drops or our Water Drops during Covid, reach out to Water Drop Program Co-Director James Cordero, james@borderangels.org. Thank you for your continued support! Link in bio to donate to our work. Are you angry?
Angry that there’s kids in cages? Angry about the 20th death confirmed in ICE custody? Angry about ICE forcibly sterilizing women? Angry that DACA recipients may be deported? Angry at so many black lives lost? Angry about so many things this year it seems like you’ve lost count? We are too. So we ask you to REGISTER TO VOTE. Take your anger and put it to good use. Use your voice and vote these senators out of office, and choose representation that does not support the current unjust and racist administration. We must do everything in our power to effect meaningful change, and do our part for those who cannot. We cannot allow this injustice and neglect to continue, we cannot allow any more lives lost. Thank you to Voice of San Diego for highlighting the work of our Day Laborer Outreach coordinator Osvaldo and his team. This article highlights the urgency and need of support to our day laborers due to the constant threat of COVID and added difficulties they face. Laborers deserve dignity and respect and we thank Voice of San Diego for bringing light to this issue, and to our team for supporting them with lunches, clothes and moral support.
