We have to work hard in the desert to make sure the supplies get where they are most needed (and safe from damage). Climbing mountainsides, scrambling around boulders. Fresh traces of travel helps us adjust as needed to where we leave our supplies.
The weather is starting to cool down a touch. We are now hiking inn under 100° out there, which may seem extreme still, but we have seen temperatures reach just about 130° this past summer. Sometimes things change seasonally in the desert, so we are committed to keep going out weekly to adapt and adjust. Thank you to everyone who has continued to show up on a regular basis. Thank you everyone for reaching out about volunteering, your support and understanding during the pandemic. As soon as it’s safe for us to start taking larger groups, we will. Please stay tuned to our social media accounts and our weekly newsletter. In the meanwhile, donations of water gallons (non milk jug style), pop-top canned food, socks, beanies, gloves, flannel shirts are appreciated, along with sharing our social media posts. Thank you! For any questions about Water Drops or our Water Drops during Covid, reach out to Water Drop Program Co-Director James Cordero, [email protected]. Thank you for your continued support! Border Angels stands in solidarity with the black community and our mission of humanitarian work embraces all those who are victimized and marginalized by the country’s racist institutions and policies. That is why we are donating a portion of the profits to organizations assisting the Black Lives Matter movement, but we need your help! Tag an organization below and help us choose! https://www.borderangels.org/shop.html Design by Misael Ruiz Repost from SDIRC:
Black immigrants represent over 20% of immigrants facing deportation because of the criminal punishment system. Join us in taking action TODAY by calling Diane Feinstein and Kamala Harris to demand they take action & #SaveBlackImmigrantFamilies.

Remember our friend and Pro Amore Dei shelter director Ms.Leticia? She shared with us some exciting news: two baby girls were just born to two of our migrant friends! She shared these sweet photos of the two healthy newborn babies. We hope these two baby girls grow up in a world where them and their parents are welcomed and not singled out by unjust laws and policies as they are now. We see them and are also reminded just how much work we have left to go, and how we must continue to fight for immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. We hope to use our voices and platform to remind you that you have a voice and platform too, and you can help us create a humane and just system!
We are feeling especially restless not being able to see these cuties in person, but take comfort knowing all of your donations are making their way to shelters like this one to make sure they can purchase everything they need. We will all see each other soon. Thank you for your continued support! Things we found this past weekend:
- Spanish prayer card - Camouflage backpack filled with snacks and some personal items. - Consumed gallons of water that we have left behind on a previous Water Drop, along with used socks that were changed out with the new socks we left in our supply packs. - Cave filled with candles. All of these items give us a glimpse of what happens in the desert while we are not out there, and reminds us why we need to be out there. Weekly desert trips during Covid with small groups of the most experienced Water Drop members has allowed us to learn so much, act rapidly and advance our mission. We want to thank Espacio Migrante for organizing yesterday’s binational #saveasylum protest and allowing us to participate along other amazing orgs and individuals like: @afsc_sd @pueblosinfronteras @borderlandsequity @gchrg @innovationlawlab & others. We want to also thank the powerful men women who read testimonies of refugees and asylum seekers.
There have been countless injustices upon our asylum seeking friends, including Migrant Protection Protocols, and all of the added difficulties COVID has brought upon with border restrictions. This administration has essentially destroyed all protections for asylum seekers and refugees, where before we were leading by example to other parts of the world. It is up to us to show up for our compas and #saveasylum! Today, members of the @bailfundnetwork are working together to pay nearly $3 million in ransom to get our people out of cages. This action builds upon years of organizing calls to #FreeThemAll and #AbolishICE.
Artwork by: Danbee Kim We did it again, we freed another person from detention, and it’s all thanks to YOU! Meet Bilal, a Mauritanian asylum seeker who has been in Imperial Valley Regional Detention Center for four months. He is 19 years old and the youngest person we have bonded out to date. It pains us to know at his young age has had to go through the horrors of detention amidst a global pandemic, but we are hopeful for his future and new beginning in Philadelphia.
In sharing every story, and posting every bond, it is our hope that we will all learn to welcome instead of to fear. We remind you to always lead with love and kindness, for that is how we will help fight racist and inhumane policies. We must always raise our voice to help accept those who so desperately need us, and who have come to this country asking for acceptance. It is up to all of us! We thank you for your continued support, and once again ask for your help to save lives. Our bond funds are running low and we need your support more than ever in order to free our folks. All donations make a difference no matter the amount, and every dollar is spent towards getting someone out of detention! Help us #freethemall! |
