We want to thank Espacio Migrante for organizing yesterday’s binational #saveasylum protest and allowing us to participate along other amazing orgs and individuals like: @afsc_sd @pueblosinfronteras @borderlandsequity @gchrg @innovationlawlab & others. We want to also thank the powerful men women who read testimonies of refugees and asylum seekers.
There have been countless injustices upon our asylum seeking friends, including Migrant Protection Protocols, and all of the added difficulties COVID has brought upon with border restrictions. This administration has essentially destroyed all protections for asylum seekers and refugees, where before we were leading by example to other parts of the world. It is up to us to show up for our compas and #saveasylum! Thank you for raising your voices for justice and dignity. The pain and injustice asylum seekers endure today mirror the horrors of the past. In Asylum Scandals: Abuse, Torture, Corruption and Murder in Minnesota’s State Hospitals, I uncover the brutal treatment of society’s most vulnerable—those committed to institutions under the guise of care. The patterns of neglect, silencing, and systemic cruelty are sadly familiar. I encourage anyone passionate about protecting human rights to read it as a sobering reminder of why we must never stop demanding accountability and compassion.
