We just got our friends at Movimiento Juventud shelter a much needed fridge and it was all thanks to YOU! This Tijuana shelter houses many women and children, and we are so grateful to be able to provide them with a working fridge to make the most use of their groceries and produce. We support 15 other shelters, many of which no longer get funds or donations from anywhere else since COVID, and it’s all through your assistance. Want to contribute to our migrant families in Tijuana? Donate now!

Thank you so much to John Paul Ramirez and Loyola Marymount University’s Campus Ministry for hosting us via zoom today! We are so lucky to partner with learning opportunities such as theirs which enables students to engage in virtual summits to discuss difficult topics, in this case immigration on our southern borders. We are grateful to be able to help promote a culture of love, and to be reminded by such wonderful individuals to be allies and lead with kindness.

SHELTER AID UPDATE:
Our migrant families and shelter directors extended their thank you for giving them another lovely family dinner. We cannot thank you enough for your support, as you’re not only providing a roof over their heads, you are saving lives! These kids, and so many other individuals at the migrant shelters rely solely on the support you help us provide, as they are hardly unable to receive donations in kind. We covered a lot of ground this past weekend. We visited three areas over two days. We climbed dry waterfalls, did some bouldering, and went low through some tunnels. All of that is needed to get the supplies to where they are needed the most right now.
Thank you to everyone on our team for all the hard work, so that we may be as efficient as possible while our time is spent in the desert. While out this weekend, we removed over 70lbs of trash from the desert! No matter the weather, nor how extreme the temperatures get, we have not, and will never leave the desert. As long as people are crossing through, we’ll be there. The temperatures are still expected to reach up to 115° in some areas, so we are still only taking experienced Water Drop volunteers for the time being. Thank you all for your patience. As soon as we can safely take new volunteers we will. For the meanwhile, sharing posts and making donations allow us to continue our work, and be efficient as possible. For any questions about Water Drops or our Water Drops during Covid, reach out to Water Drop Program Co-Director James Cordero, [email protected]. Thank you for your continued support! Link in bio to donate to our work. Are you angry?
Angry that there’s kids in cages? Angry about the 20th death confirmed in ICE custody? Angry about ICE forcibly sterilizing women? Angry that DACA recipients may be deported? Angry at so many black lives lost? Angry about so many things this year it seems like you’ve lost count? We are too. So we ask you to REGISTER TO VOTE. Take your anger and put it to good use. Use your voice and vote these senators out of office, and choose representation that does not support the current unjust and racist administration. We must do everything in our power to effect meaningful change, and do our part for those who cannot. We cannot allow this injustice and neglect to continue, we cannot allow any more lives lost. Thank you to Voice of San Diego for highlighting the work of our Day Laborer Outreach coordinator Osvaldo and his team. This article highlights the urgency and need of support to our day laborers due to the constant threat of COVID and added difficulties they face. Laborers deserve dignity and respect and we thank Voice of San Diego for bringing light to this issue, and to our team for supporting them with lunches, clothes and moral support.

For more info or questions please feel free to email us! Today we share the bittersweet release of most recent Familias Reunidas Bond Program, Kals. He is a 25-year old Mauritanian asylum seeker who spent 7 months in the Otay Mesa Detention Center, in fact he spent an extra month in detention because his order was not on file. We are so happy to be able to free him, and thank you all for your support.
Kals came to the United States running from slavery in his home country, and our unjust and racist policies subjected him to detention instead of welcoming him to the land of the free. His bond, as well as many of our other bond recipients from African countries, was set much higher than many others we have received. This is why is with heavy hearts that we received the news of Former Officer Brett Atkins indictment in the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor today, particularly upon learning his bail was set at 15K, when we know our folks bonds are set at similar and even sometimes higher amounts. We have encountered immigration bond of asylum seekers with no criminal history simply seeking to survive, be given bond amounts greater than a police officer involved in a fatal shooting. Today, we are once again painfully reminded of the racial injustice in this country. And while we celebrate the freedom of Kals, our heart grieves for the family of Breonna Taylor reminding us to raise our voices against the persecution of black folks in America. Let this story serve as a reminder of all the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and community members waiting in such conditions in detention, simply for seeking a place or a part in this country. Kals represents so many others being subject to racist and inhumane policies, and we must not forget the urgency of getting everyone we can out of the Otay Mesa Detention Center. We cannot and must not be silent. Again, we thank you for your support and ask you to continue to make sure our folks are #FreeAndAlive. We received these boxes of very special masks sewed by Auntie Sewing Squad! They are so beautiful and necessary, we cannot thank Auntie Kathy enough for these. We love to see so many of you use your talents for good, and continue to be impressed by all of your generosity. Thank you!
We are very carefully attempting to receive physical donations at our office. If you would like to donate the following items: face masks, sanitizers, and pop top cans ONLY, please SHIP to our Chula Vista Office as we have limited access. We currently can only accept the above mentioned items and please make sure everything is sanitized, thank you! For more questions about donations please email us at [email protected] Before the Labor Day holiday weekend, we ventured off into a section of the desert with some canyons that are very exposed to the sun and have had lots of consumption of our supplies in the past, and revisited them to stock them back up.
It was a rare desert cool down of around 110° or so. If you were anywhere in the West or Southwest, you’ll remember Labor Day weekend had seen some record temperatures in the states along the border. It was crucial that we stocked these canyons with water and supplies before the record temperatures hit. Thank you to everyone on our team who keeps coming out week after week and putting their bodies on the line to do some good. No matter the weather, nor how extreme the temperatures get, we have not, and will never leave the desert. As long as people are crossing through, we’ll be there. While the temperatures are still extreme, we are only taking experienced Water Drop volunteers for the time being. Thank you all for your patience. As soon as we can safely take new volunteers we will. For the meanwhile, sharing posts and making donations allow us to continue our work, and be efficient as possible.
