We successfully freed another person from detention through our Families Reunidas Bond Program, Eduardo! He is a 22 year old Nicaraguan asylum seeker who was in detention for 2 months. He was detained in Imperial Valley Regional Detention center, another facility with confirmed cases and blatant disregard for COVID safety guidelines.
• As is the case with all individuals, we are frustrated yet happy to get one more person out of these negligent detention prisons. We cannot stress enough the urgency of bonding people out, as we have now seen 21 confirmed deaths in ICE custody. Eduardo is now headed to Miami to begin a new chapter in life with his father and sponsor. We need YOUR help to save lives! Eduardo may be one of the last bonds we post in a while. Our bond funds are running low and we need your support more than ever in order to free our folks. All donations make a difference no matter the amount, and every dollar is spent towards getting someone out of detention!

Our friend and shelter director Pastor Altamirano shared with us a bittersweet thank you for our support in paying for one of his shelter family’s going away dinner. She loves seafood, and Pastor Altamirano was kind enough to plan a fried fish dinner with the help of everyone at Camino de Salvacion. This woman and her child had been waiting for their asylum case to be heard since March, and has been repeatedly postponed to the point that she has decided to return to her home country. Regrettably, this is the case of so many waiting in the Tijuana shelters, due to horrible policies like MPP(Migrant Protection Protocols) forcing people to “remain in Mexico” to await their case to be heard. Through this we close our doors instead of welcoming immigrants, and force them to wait in another country with no assistance.
It is with heavy hearts that we send her and child off, but are grateful to have indulged her in a farewell comfort. We are extremely grateful for your continued support, as it is truly going to people who need it, and have no other support. We depend on each and every one of you so much, as you help us feed and care for these families. We also share this story with you in hopes that you will assist us in our mission of ending such inhumane policies such as MPP. Empty bottles, empty cans, empty crates. Refilled crates, climbed rocks, pushed through hot sand. Together. As a team. This group has been working together strong, week after week for over 6 months straight.
Due to the pandemic and the extreme heat, our small groups working these past six months have been able to be as effective as having large groups out once a month. We’ll be back out tomorrow. Some areas are starting to drop in temperatures just below 100°. Once the weather cools down and pandemic gets under better control, we will start to slowly bring volunteers out. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. In the meanwhile, donations of water gallons (non milk jug style), pop-top canned food, socks and bandanas are appreciated, along with sharing our social media posts. We cannot allow such racist and unjust actions to take place, we must do everything we can to protect those who are not given a voice. We must be the voice that contacts our current representatives and denounce hate. It is up to us to VOTE for individuals who represent and protect our communities.

Special thanks to Magdaleno Leon Rose Avila for being our moderator!
It was an honor not only to speak on our work, but to learn about the efforts of our fellow organizers. It is imperative that we open up these discussions to discover what is happening on both sides of the border. We hope that together we can continue working towards more humane immigration policy. Carve out space in your garage and donate it to Border Angels! You could even qualify for a sweet tax deduction. Our Vehicle Donation Program will work for the best price, so you can be done with it and we can do GOOD with it! The tow is free and the process easy! Donate through the link in bio or call (855)500-7433. Our Vehicle Donor Support Team is available seven days a week.

Remember the shelter expansion we funded at Roca de Salvacion shelter? We received a special thank you message and take a look at how far they’ve come with the construction! We are overjoyed at watching what a beautiful space they have built from the ground up, and so excited to have a better space for our migrant families. We also want to thank Pastor Salvador, his team, the construction workers, and all of YOU for making this possible.
Thank you so much to Osvaldo, Tanya, and Dulce for providing our day laborers with hygiene products, snacks, fruits, and face masks during last weekend’s Day Laborer Outreach. We are so grateful to be able to serve our community in need and provide them some of the basic needs they deserve. A huge shoutout to Chula Vista Food Service for their produce donations and helping us fill over 70 bags to distribute. We are so glad to have a team that leads by example and always treats our beloved day laborers with dignity and respect.

The Fall season may have started on the calendar, but the desert heat has no end in sight. Last weekend temperatures remained just shy of 115° in some areas.
These desert conditions will give you a lightheaded feeling, maybe headaches, stomach aches, and physical fatigue. These symptoms are felt when we are prepared, properly fed, hydrated and rested. Now, imagine those passing through without the same luxuries. Temperatures will remain high for at least another month. No matter the weather, nor how extreme the temperatures get, we have not, and will never leave the desert. As long as people are crossing through, we’ll be there. The temperatures are still expected to reach up to 110-115° in some areas tomorrow so we are still only taking experienced Water Drop volunteers for the time being. Thank you all for your patience. As soon as we can safely take new volunteers we will. For the meanwhile, sharing posts and making donations allow us to continue our work, and be efficient as possible. For any questions about Water Drops or our Water Drops during Covid, reach out to Water Drop Program Co-Director James Cordero, james@borderangels.org. Thank you for your continued support! Border Angels is so proud to have young people like this put their efforts together for the greater good!
We miss our volunteers so much, and are working hard to adapt and grow in response to this pandemic so we may be reunited soon. Thank you to all of our supporters who continue finding ways to amaze us!
