We are so happy to share with you another recipient of our Familias Reunidas Bond Program, Miguel Angel. He is a 22-year-old individual detained in Adelanto ICE Detention for 6 months, and was not able to see his family that entire time. He is finally able to be reunited with his aunt, uncle and cousin.
We cannot thank all of you enough for your continued support and helping us bond Miguel Angel, as his uncles could not pay his bond and both of his parents have unfortunately passed away. As previously mentioned, Adelanto is known for the neglect of its inhabitants, as well as the toxic and harmful “sanitation” practices. It is heartbreaking to us that this country’s inhumane and racist policies kept such a young and beautiful spirit with his whole future ahead of him, incarcerated for half a year. We hope our work, our voices, and your kindness, lead by example to both free as many individuals as possible and to end the laws that perpetuate these practices. Let these stories serve as a reminder of all the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and community members waiting in such conditions in detention, simply for seeking a place or a part in this country. Miguel Angel represents so many others being subject to these inhumane policies and we must not forget the urgency of getting everyone we can out of the Otay Mesa Detention Center. This pandemic continues to be unforgiving, and we will not allow any more lives lost. Again, we thank you for your support and ask you to continue to help us make sure our folks are #FreeAndAlive.
